Mission

Positioned was founded to develop, support, and empower women leaders of color who are positioned to dramatically impact society and serve as beacons for the next generation of women leaders of color. Positioned also exists to partner with and support leadership teams who endeavor to actualize and operationalize their diversity, equity & inclusion commitments.

Why Women of Color?

 
 

The professional experiences of women of color are profoundly different from their counterparts.

There is an absence of women leaders of color. A recent study revealed the lack of advancement opportunities afforded to women of color in non-profit organizations, as well as the challenges women of color face as they navigate organizational cultures that are not diverse, equitable or inclusive. Furthermore, the 2020 Fortune 500 list unearthed that only 7 percent of the companies listed are led by women and none of the women identify as Black or Latina. These examples reveal not only the absence of expertise and diversity of thought amongst leaders but also the limitations of women leaders of color to be developed, supported, and empowered by other women leaders of color.

This is a problem.

Positioned is a direct response to this problem. Positioned believes women of color need a space where they can grow, thrive, question, and grapple without consequence to their professional reputation, their race, or their gender—Positioned is that space. Positioned exists to develop, support, and empower women of color as they advance in their careers.

Why Leadership Teams?

 
 

Organizational change starts with organizational leadership.

The work of making organizations diverse, equitable, and inclusive starts with leadership teams. While many organizations have diversified their organizations, diversity optics are not enough. The people of color who navigate organizations that are optically diverse, but not yet equitable or inclusive, often feel marginalized and required to conform to an organizational culture that does not reflect them. 

Positioned partners with leaders and leadership teams to create and implement a comprehensive diversity, equity, and inclusive (DEI) strategy designed to shift organizations from DEI optics to DEI operations.
